From my friend, Marisa:
Many people grow up and grow out of children’s books, but not me. Even in my adulthood, my passion for great children’s literature remains. As a teacher, I love the moment when a child experiences a great book for the first time. Whether it’s the stylish illustrations, captivating lessons or endearing characters that suck the child in, there is nothing like watching a child find a book that makes them just want to sit down and read.
We do not have all the answers…we must encourage students to seek information for themselves through reading to learn from a young age. That being said, I am not naïve. I realize that this passion of mine is a luxury that is not accessible to all children. Libraries can be expensive, overwhelming and challenging to maintain.
My latest project, EdGeeks.com, has a special section called Marisa’s Dream Library. It is a space where you will find a growing collection of the library that I would wish for every child to have access to in some capacity. One of the main goals of this project is to support teachers and families in passing on a passion for books to their children.
