Gilded Words (Model: Stella Rhombica)

I have a lot of books. A lot. Some of them I love, others… not so much. The ones I don’t, I like to give away or sell, but sometimes, it’s just not worth it. The Vampire Diaries is one of those books, taking up space, not being read, accumulating dust. So I thought, “What better way to make use of these books than to recycle the paper for origami?”

Materials used:

• 30 squares of paper (2”x2”), cut from a book (used: The Vampire Diaries: The Fury/Dark Reunion, by L.J. Smith)
• pencil and ruler for measuring the squares out
• tube of gold acrylic paint and paintbrush
• scissors
• Stella Rhombica diagram, by Lukasheva Ekaterina

I used the acrylic paint (as opposed to watercolor or oil paints, which I also have) because it doesn’t ruin the integrity of the paper, it’s permanent and water-resistant, and it’s actually really flexible when it’s dry. It folds really, really well, considering, and the final product is very pretty.
